Every system keeps a record. This is where I keep mine.

Three things I try to hold together in every piece: the engineering has to work, the data has to be handled with care, and the decisions have to survive an audit.

• § Build it so it works — architecture and implementation first.
• § Handle data like it's someone's, because it is.
• § Write decisions down — governance is a paper trail, not a slide.
